About the project

Designflows is a contest organized by Bending Spoons where designers have 24 hours to respond to a brief.

My approach

With this project, I wanted to have fun and step outside my comfort zone. It also gave me the chance to explore interesting usability challenges and let my creativity flow.

How would we manage bots on a Mars colony?

This question may seem out of this world, but it highlights real usability challenges: using a phone in a space suit, dealing with red dust in the air, and coping with constant solar radiation.

Quick flow & ideation

With just 24 hours, there was little time for research. After briefly reviewing similar services, like car rental and smart appliance management apps, I jumped straight into mapping flows and sketching wireframes.

Interface that works with both screen and voice

this was my “aha” moment in the project. If the scientist has busy hands, they can use the voice interface. Regular users, on the other hand, may prefer pre-suggested options on the screen.

UI and Visual Design

The high-contrast UI ensures content is visible in any environment. Hexabots are coded by both color and shape. To add personalization and friendliness, I introduced a feature that lets users customize the bots’ faces.

A valuable experience that pushed my skills to the limit under extreme time pressure.

Even though my project wasn’t nominated for a prize, it was a fun experience that allowed me to flex my design muscles.


I usually work in complex B2B environments, so it was refreshing to design something so out of the ordinary.


I also grew attached to the little bot I created late one night as I was about to fall asleep.
